Welcome to our travel blog for our trip to Florence, Italy May 12 to 20th, 2019.

This is an international course based in the physics and astronomy department at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC.  There are 12 students and 3 faculty participating in this course.  We are from a diverse discipline base which will help us to discuss what we experience from a wide range of perspectives.  The disciplines on this trip include physics, sustainable technology, sustainable development, computer science, architecture, nutrition and psychology.

In the spring semester, this group met as part of a regular physics course (PHY1830) offered on the physics of energy and sustainability and learned about the basics of thermodynamics, mechanics and electricity and magnetism. This course will allow us to apply these concepts to better understand the energy and food systems in Italy.

Students will be posting their journal entries here.  Some of these entries will be open-ended and some will be in response to a given writing prompt.

We welcome you to follow along with us as we journal about our experience!

Ciao!
